NewsRay Honours Bayelsa Arts Council

The Executive Director of the Bayelsa State Council for Arts & Culture, Dr. Barclays Ayakoroma, has enjoined artists to be committed to excellence in execution, and endeavour to perform at the optimum level, as guiding principles in professional theatre practice.

Dr. Ayakoroma was speaking to news men at the NewsRay Magazine 4th Annual Lecture, where the Council was honoured for its “pragmatic performances nationally and internationally.”

EnoghaAccording to him, the success story of the Council under his leadership has been as a result of the enabling atmosphere created by government and the team spirit which had been cultivated by the management and staff over the years.

The NewsRay Annual Lecture, which also marked the 15th Anniversary of the magazine, took place at the NUJ Press Centre, Azikoro Road, Yenagoa, the State Capital on Thursday, June 19, 2009, had in attendance, the Vice President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, who was ably represented by Elder Braiyi Ekiye, the Special Adviser to the President on Parastatals & Statutory Bodies.

The lecture on the topic, “The Search for Sustainable Peace in the Niger Delta Crisis: The Role of the Media,” was presented by Dr. Reuben Abati, Chairman, Editorial Board, The Guardian Newspapers.

It would be recalled that the Bayelsa State Troupe has always made the state proud in its many state, national and international outings, the most recent sterling performance being the overall second position in the last edition of the National Festival for Arts & Culture (NAFEST 2008), which took place in Enugu.

Other Bayelsa based NewsRay Award recipients include, Hon. Emomotimi Fanama (MD, De-Prize Motors), Hon. Robert Enogha (House Committee Chairman on Information, Culture & Tourism, and Chairman, Ayalla Hotels, Yenagoa), Comrade Ebikibina Miriki (State Secretary, Action Congress), Chief S. S. Eberiye (Commissioner, Bayelsa State Civil Service Commission), Queen Liz Bens, (SSA to the Governor on Culture), Lady Irene Digitemie (Secretary, Establishment & Pensions Bureau), and Ayebaitari Easterday (National Investigator).
